Finishing an old deck

I recently acquired an older home in Valemont BC Canada. The 2000+ sq ft deck (with a spectacular view) has never been treated. The boards are ~1 1/2 in thick and we are currently replacing rotting boards. The deck is sturdy but looks bad. Suggestions are to sand down to newer wood and stain with a good quality latex semi-transparent deck stain. Others have said use an industrial modified linseed oil based stain for durability. The deck faces south and gets alot of sun in the summer but lots of damp and cold in the winter. Any suggestions would really help as the deck is large and economy and low maintenance is important.

Re: Finishing an old deck

I have used the latex before and it worked well, I power washed the deck first and didn't need to sand it. you will have to re-apply the latex once a year or so, but i found that to be true with the oils to.
