False wood ceiling?
bricksonsecond

Anyone know if a false wood ceiling is a thing? My mom wants to put in a wood ceiling (like pallets), but my dad wants a false ceiling so he can access ducts and things. Neither of them will go with Faux wood, has to be real wood. Any ideas?

I suspect that there are codes against such things in residential, as you would not have an enclosed space/fire-stop.

As far as applying wood over drywall, it's done all the time. If you wanted to create wood panels for a dropped ceiling grid, you could do that too, but you'll need to maintain the fully encased drywall enclosure of the room, no holes into attic or crawlspace for access or appurtenances.

What Spruce said with the added; Even if your house isn't covered by building authority, your insurance company will care a whole lot as more houses are destroyed by fire than everything else.

Armstrong, USG and others have wood ceiling products. Most are more for commercial and institutional settings, but they have wood veneered lay-in and some plank types. Not too familiar with them. A big box or supply store may be able to order them if you know what you want. Search wood ceilings and a lot comes up.

I do not think that there are fake wood, but wood panels grades and varieties which need technical profisional reveals whether or not a distinct quality.

The few posts made by supertramp I've seen make little sense. Is somebody trying to get enough posts in order to post links?
