Exposing newly glazed windows to the elements?

I've read several sets of instructions on how to reglaze windows, and I'm a little confused. They say it takes 7 to 10 days for the glazing to cure so you can prime & paint the exterior of the window. Do you put the window back in while you wait? If not, what do you do with the opening in your house? If so, what if it rains and the glazing gets wet? This is my first time attempting a project of this magnitude (we have 1960's side-sliders, all with mostly-gone glazing.... 32 of them!!!) and I just want to make sure I have all my ducks lined up before starting. I'm not sure how fast I'll be, so I don't know how many will be in the curing stage at the same time.

Any advice or thoughts are welcome! Thank you!

The 7 to 10 days if to allow the glazing time to cure so it can be painted and the paint will stick. Exposure to the elements is not a problem during the curing period.
