Evaporative/Swamp Cooler with 2 water sources

I had the 30 year old swamp cooler removed from the roof of my house, but they left the pipes and electrical. Fine - I am now going to repurpose the electrical and disconnect the water pipes. My confusion is that there are two water sources on the roof. Not having disconnected the unit myself, I'm not sure where each was connected/how each was used. I have been unable to find any info on an installation that calls for two water sources.

Source #1: half inch pipe that connects to a 'knob' valve in an interior hall closet of the house. Turning the knob causes water to gush out on the roof.
Source #2: small, copper/brass flex pipe that runs through the attic and drops in the garage. It connects to the water source just before it goes into the softener. There is a ball valve in the garage that controls the flow to the roof on this line.

Any ideas?

Call whoever took it apart and ask him.
