Energy saving with a sliding glass door ?!?

Summer is here and, in a house with 5 kids, the porch sliding glass door is in constant use. Every opening pumps cool air outside, resulting in high energy costs.
Would an Air Curtain be a good way to reduce the thermal transfer and energy costs? What other options, other than shock collars for the kids, might I have.

Thanks in advance,
Steve.
