eliminate shower

We are redoing an old bath and are eliminating a separate tiled shower and moving the shower into the bathtub. The contractor says is no big deal. However, what needs to be done to close off drain and plumbing before tile over floor? Does this need to be inspected?

Additionally, the tub is smack next to a window, so will have to use a curved shower curtain. Easily doable but will this create a problem if inspected?

Yep --- because you are moving plumbing you need a permit.

Basically you need a permit and inspections anytime plumbing --- electrical ---- structure are touched even by professionals --- don't let them tell you otherwise.

You really should educate yourself by speaking with your municipal building inspections office as to requirements for permits and inspections.

Not only do you want to do things legally but also protection from shaddy contractors who will cut corners if they know the work won't be inspected ---- bottom line is protection for you.

Yes...Great advise canuk. Don't take any chances.;)GregC

Re: eliminate shower

Be vary wary of a contractor who says things like "no big deal" or that a permit isn't needed. If the contractor is too lazy or cheap to pull a permit then I would consider a new contractor asap. It's not a good sign. Best of luck on your project.
