all totaled I was at 2.7 amps. Yikes!

For those of us that don't know our amps from a volt in the ground, that translates to?

Re: Electricity testing?

2.7 amps x 120 volts = 324 watts

324 watts x 720 hrs = 233,280.00

Or, 233.280 kwh

233.280 kwh x $.10 = $23.33 per month!

Yep ... all those TV's , audio ,VCR , microwave , AC/DC adapters , computer equipment , cordless phones , answering machines, etc. ....sitting idle are still drawing power ... so adding all those things up costs money when they're not being used but plugged in.

Re: Electricity testing?

That adds up to some significant savings if one were to disarm all those power suckers.

Thanks for the great response guys! Makes you wonder about unplugging things. I'm currently testing the microwave...lol.

Re: Electricity testing?

Mine microwave was about .04 amps which translates to about 3.5 kwh.

Lets see how close it is.

My cell phone charger was a big user too. Not charging a thing but plugged in............. It's not plugged in anymore...... Nope sure isn't.

And the three TV's I never watch? UNPLUGGED!

Re: Electricity testing?

Surprising just how much energy all those things can munch without us knowing about it.

I wonder if my DeWalt chargers in the shop are drawing anything without a battery in the tray.

Re: Electricity testing?

I keep a NiCad charger for AA's plugged in all the time. (Used to that is.)

Draws .04 amps just sitting there plugged in doing nothing.

Re: Electricity testing?

Look at all the gadgets today that are AC/DC convertors that are plugged in ... it's scarey when I look around and see several of these around here.
Plugged in and the internal transformer humming away drinking up all that juice ... sitting idle ...
