Premature, immature, inappropriate level of maturity describing the action or the subject, fits, apparently proudly.

Not to worry folks. There's no one unstable hangin' around here. Nothing at all odd about digging up a thread that was dead in the water since the 4th of Sept..... just to take a swipe at someone. Perfectly normal behavior.

To the original poster…

I stumbled across this old thread and I thought I’d share my recent “discovery” with you.

My A/C started giving me a lot of trouble this summer so I researched HVAC systems and got bids on a few systems: a high efficiency gas furnace with a high efficiency A/C (20 SEER); a high efficiency gas furnace with an air source heat pump, and a ground source heat pump. I am going with the ground source heat pump. They started installing it this week. It should be done Monday (11-23-09). My expected cost to heat and cool my home and get hot water is estimated at $350….. per year. And I live in Minnesota where it is cold half the year. (This is hot water for just me. Also, the house is about 2400 square feet. It is not super insulated – it has fiberglass insulation in 2x6 walls.)

You can have low up-front costs and pay high monthly bills for your utilities or you can spend money up front and invest in better technology and better insulation and better lights and better windows. The money you spend for high efficiency and energy savings will pay you back every month.

When my ground source heat pump has run a few months and I have some actual utility bills with my new system I will post back with some real life numbers and costs and savings. Yes, this system costs a lot of money up front. But with the 30% federal tax rebate it takes a bit of the sting out of the bill.
