we used hardibacker on a recommendation because it is easier to cut than durarock. We also liked that it has gridlines that can be used as a guide for laying tiles. So far we are happy with it but it has only been two months since we used it to lay tile.
I prefer Hardibacker, but that's me, I think you will get tons of different opinions on this one.

OK, I'll bite, what is Hardibacker?
Duarock , 1/4" & 1/2" is the only product I have been around. And yes, it is messy and hard to work with.
Thanks for the info.
Anybody know the name of that orange foam product that can be used in place of durarock?
Ernie ... orange foam?
I'm thinking the Kerdi or Ditra system?
