Drywall/Plaster/Fireplace/TV question

Sorry for the confusing title.

What is the best way to add a tv over the fireplace?

The home is from the 1920s. it is all plaster. I don't know if there are studs framing the fireplace.

Should I rip out the plaster, frame the fireplace out, then matchup the drywall to the plaster?

Re: Drywall/Plaster/Fireplace/TV question

You can use a stud finder or drill tiny holes to find the studs then patch. No need to go through all the work of demo to hang a tv.

Re: Drywall/Plaster/Fireplace/TV question

Question: why do you want to hang your TV over a heat source?
