Dose anyone know about this slicer?

My brother bought this tool from an antique shop, the only thing he knows about it is its from Europe. No marking that we can find. It is designed to cut very thin slices each time you lower the knife. Someone must know what it was intended for.
Any info would help.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure, but it could be an old cheese or vegetable slicer?

That is for getting rid of pesky gophers. You stick them in there, and no matter how long or short they are, the spring loaded mechanism pokes there head out the opening for you to be able to draw the knife down.....

Sorry :p

I have the same assessment.
