Dog proof door needed

When my dog is in the front yard he will scratch the front door to let us know he's ready to come inside. Consequently, the wood door has deep scratches along the side, about 3 feet in length.
We need a new front door because this one allows wind to blow through it, no matter how much weather stripping we try to attach.
Would a fiberglass door hold up to dog claws? What options do we have besides breaking his heart and not allowing him to patrol the front fence?

Re: Dog proof door needed

Pet damage is a by product of owning one. Dogs do a lot of damage and in most cases, replacement is the only remedy. You mentioned that you need a new door for another reason, so get a new door and then try installing a plastic shield where your dog hits the door. It will be easier to replace the shield than the door.
