We have a wood stove in the front of the house; the front room gets very warm. However, we can't get much heat to the back of the house even with the central air fan on. I have thought about putting a return between the stove and the wall. Is this how it is done?
Put a return in or near the ceiling where the hottest air is and have it louvered so it can be closed during cooling season.

Thanks Jack, I considered that option first. However, in this case it is not doable. :(
I'm not sure what a central air fan is. Have you considered a ceiling fan or is that the same thing?
Whats the layout of your house, where do your returns run, where is your air handler at ?
