dirty walls

I have been experiencing a dirty film that covers my walls and ceilings in my house.
like a black film, when I remove a picture or move the furniture there is an outline on the wall.
I would like to know if this is because of the baseboard heating that we have or something else.

Howdy, first check the Gas- furnace and or water heater venting you may have a cooling issue an with that carbon monoxide issue...
Second do you burn allot of candles this can soot the interior and also if you have a fireplace check the venting if a gas inset is the flu open properly. Once done if all ok then write back....

How old is your house? Did it use to have coal burning fireplaces in it? If it did....the coal soot likes to hide in the attic rafters and it comes through the cracks and heating/air duct work...I know this because I have the same problem. :) We used a shop vac and got as much up as we could and used white vinegar and water to wipe the walls down.
