Dining table legs

My neighbor gave us his table. He had cut about 6 1/2inches off all four legs. We would like to put the legs back on. Not sure where to start. Glue, screws, nails, or brackets?

Get a wood dowel about 1/2 the diameter of the leg and drill a hole at least 2x the diameter deep into both pieces - then just glue and clamp.

If it's a turned leg and you have lathe, before you glue it back together cut another bead detail at the cut off point will make the joint completely disappear.

The solution suggested by libcarp is a good one but a word of caution. Either buy or build a dowling jig for drilling the holes. You'll want to be VERY sure that your holes are perpendicular to the leg and that they are going to match on both pieces. If not, you'll have a leg with a piece at the bottom that runs in a different direction than the rest of the leg. Your joint will look ugly and the leg will look funny.

Good Luck.

What style legs are they? What are they made of? Do you have the cutoff pieces? How would you rate your skill level?
