My dilemma is that my 1/2'' water pipe stub out for my pot filler is set too far into the wall. My plumber wants me to break the wall behind it and push that water line forward. Not an option. Is there a small 1/2 inch adapter with a mip & fip thin enough to use to screw into that water pipe so that the plate will fit over it when I screw the pot filler into it? I have a picture. You see the water line was installed to the dry wall, but since I installed the backsplash the water line pipe (fip) is set too far into the wall and the male pot filler won't reach it to be screwed in.

To post pictures you have to upload the images to a photo host, then link them here.

As for your dilemma, ideally, you find a pot filler with female threads, then all you need to do is get a male nipple long enough to reach between the filler and the supply. As for making the male filler work, you'd need to rig up a fitting to do the job, which is completely doable, the problem is clearances. By the time you get a coupler and nipple to extend your supply you'll be looking at about a 2" long adapter, is this going to be hidden in the wall, probably not. Using copper fittings might save you some space, though not likely.

Post a picture to a photo sharing site, then post the link here. Uploads don't work on this site.

More info needed, but better yet "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Only a good clear picture will answer this question.

There should be a fitting like this inside the wall: http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=153095&d=1382916360
To fit the pot filler you buy (make) the proper length nipple; IIRC they come in 1/4" increments below 3 1/2" lengths.
