Deck Posts begining to rot, can I save them?
weilerrs

I have a raised deck with several 6x6 posts. The posts are in good shape but very moist and soft on the very edges where they exist the ground. Can I dig away the dirt and add more concrete above grade to protect them or install a post collar if the 6x6 is still in good shape?

Thanks

I don't know the extend of the rot and the integrity of your posts, but generally, I doubt that rotten posts can be trusted to support a deck.

We talking about safety here. Tall posts, short posts - they have to be in excellent condition.

I would replace them and make sure the footing is to code, while I'm at it.
