The deck with plastic decking

I caught a piece of an episode, I think it was the Weston House. They were in the process of laying down the decking for an outside porch. There was a membrane below the deck and they had glued stringers down to fasten the plastic decking to.

It surprised me to see the stringers were just normal wood. No treating whatsoever. It seems kind of odd to me to go to all the trouble and expense of the plastic decking and screw it down to something that will fail in a few years. Why not use a plastic stringer as well. Or in the very least treat the stringers with something prior to installation.

Maybe I missed something, was there any discussion about the stringers?
