what is the best proper level way to install 2x6 joist on a 2x8 beam when the hangers are smaller then the 2x6 how to hang level by 1 person
Cut a scrap 6" piece of the 2x6 to use as a guide in the joist hanger. Line up the joist hanger using this scrap on each side of the span you're going across (i.e. hold the scrap in the joist hanger, line up with the top of the beam, then nail the joist hanger in place on each side).
Once the joist hangers are in place, put one end of the full lenght 2x6 in place, lift the other into place, then nail into the joist hanger.
Assuming your beam work is level on each end, this should work and is an easy way for a one-man crew to get everything in level.
Other than that, grab a few 12 packs and invite your buddies over. I've never met a guy who would pass up free beer!
