I need to cut a 2 1/2 inch hole across 3, 3 inch tiles. I have tried using a nipper, but keep breaking the tiles.
It's only 3 tiles, so I don't want to buy or rent a tile saw. Any other ideas?
Maybe try drilling a series of small holes along a traced outline and pop out the center.
bsum1 has probably the best option but you still might have a problem breaking the tiles being so close to the edges. there's one trick that i use as a last resort when all else fails. basically what you do is cut a tile straight through the middle of the hole you want to cut out. now you have 2 halves of tile and when you put them back together carefully the cut line barely becomes noticable. on each half, cut a 1/2 circle with your nippers and then carefully adhere the two tile halves to the wall being careful to keep mastic away from the getting between where the two halves meet. if you do it carefully enough and don't tell anybody, i bet you that no one will notice.
