Custom Bunk beds

Hello everyone! Ah This Old House... I have finally turned into my uncle lol. He had stacks of these magazines years ago and it was his second bible. Anywho...

I am planning on building what possibly might be complex bunkbeds in one of the kiddos rooms upstairs. My wife and I have looked at pictures on the web and we like the idea of placing full sized beds over queen sized beds and have a staircase leading to the top set. To save on some space and materials these will need to be mounted to the walls.

My concern is If I use a board mounted to wall as an anchor, will that rip out, break, or fail somehow? What materials do I need to make this moderately indestructable and not break the bank?

I have attached 2 pics, the blue and white stripe one is what I want it to look like, but the other picture might be an opotion too, at this point I am still writing with pencil :)

You will need to find the location of the studs in the wall and attach to them.
