curling drywall shower

We moved into a newly constructed house in March 2005. In recent months the drywall above (my) shower stall where the wall meets the top of the stall has begun curling away from the wall & is slowly getting worse. I assume the people who built our house didn't put in waterproof drywall in the bath...who knows...can this be fixed easily & painlessly or will it turn into a major project which involves me using another bathroom in the house for a week or more? Will probably be paying a drywall pro to do fix, just wondering how bad to expect this? Can simply be minor cut of bad wall & re-tape (or) musch bigger project?
