cover plaster shower wall with sheet vinyl

A previous owner installed a plaster-over-coarse-wire shower wall, wrapping around the back, head and foot ends of a clawfoot tub. Due to the sharp turns, especially at the head and foot ends near the opening to the room, I thought I should use sheet vinyl to cover and seal the painted plaster wall. The Henry adhesives co. advised me to not use their flooring adhesive due to lack of shear strength. Is there a construction adhesive I could use? Thanks, Joe
