What suggestions do you have for putting something over an old cement patio? The patio is 16'x20'. Has anyone used 1/2 pavers over the cement? This will be in a winter climate location. Thank you, Dennis
Stop by a masonry supply yard for some good ideas. You may find something you like.
Pavers are good, so are bricks and stone.
Dry laid pavers will frost heave up. You can set them like bricks for a more permanent solution. Or you can use a decorative concrete top applied by an expert crew.
I work for a landscape construction company and we have put pavers over top of old concrete patio's. One thing to take into consideration is if there is any cracks in the concrete,if not you should be in good shape. I would suggest that you put down a thin layer of sand on top of the concrete before laying the pavers,we usually use about a half inch of sand, if you have the room to raise it up a little. You will need to retain the edges that are not against the foundation of the house.
What a wonderful post. Thank you all for sharing your advice.
Put a thin layer of new concrete, perhaps with stones embedded in it, it will give very new look like sand.
