cooling ventilation question

I have a vent in the ceiling of my single story home which I use to occasionally vent hot air out of the house or pull in cool morning air. Question is I recently had my roof redone and the ridge vent was changed from a caped vent [not sure the correct term] but it was a lift sort of that created a visible line of venting on the ridge and it was switched to the mesh type the vent is less visible and I was concerned if the new type is better or worse when used with the exhaust fan. And also if I were to install vent in either side of the peak of the house would help the flow of air and create more of a discharge of air when I run the exhaust fan?
