Hello,
I need some help with my DTV converter box that I bought; I must say that I'm getting frustrated with it. My TV works with a roof antenna but when I hooked up my comverter box I received a weak signal? What can I do, I hope you can help me.
Thank you for your time. Chantal.

Perhaps the station(s) in your area may not be transmitting the digital signal at full power yet .

Or the antenna may need some tweeking on the alignment.

Check all the new antenna connections you've made. The pin in the coax end can get bent. Try connecting the antenna wire directly to the box then the TV, not through a VCR or other device. Try a different wire from the box to the TV, it could have a bad end. The box could be bad. Switch it with a known good one if you can.
A rotor for the antenna should help zero in on a signal. I've found the position for the best analog signal is not necessarily the best for the digital signal.
good luck. Once you get the digital to work correctly, you'll appreciate it.

As stated above, the old analog signal was a wide band and could usually be picked up on all sides of the antenna while the digital signal is much narrower and you must have the antenna pointed at the transmitter. Although the hype has said you only need to add a converter it is often the case a better antenna is required and a rotor for best signal pick up.

Another thing you can try is stopping by your local home center or electronics supply store and picking up an amplifier. I wouldn't suggest anyting under a 25dB gain. This takes your incoming antenna signal and outputs a more powerful signal. You can then take the signal and send it to a splitter or directly to the converter box.

Does your box have analog pass through. If not then the analog signals to the TV will be very weak.
