Compacted lawn with bare spots

I see the recent article about repairing a compacted lawn with bare spots....a weekend's worth of work. I am looking for a solution that might take less time, but still accomlish much of this...can I aerate the soil with an aerator/ roller for the soil in place rather tan stripping the sod, overlay an inch of topsoil and seed heavily ? Thanks PS

Re: Compacted lawn with bare spots

Of course you can.

Scotts is promoting heavily their bare spot repair kits: grass and topsoil mix, for areas just like yours. You understand that part of the cost of the bag goes to pay for the expensive commercials. And Pennington Grass is now advertising that their repair kits DON'T contain any dirt...

Grass repair war.

Re: Compacted lawn with bare spots

i HAVE USED THE SCOTTS TREATMENTS for bare spots and it works very nice!!!
