Color Washing Conundrum!

I used an old Valspar color chip for color washing, with a rich blue as a base coat and the tintable glaze tinted "Maroon" in a tiny, windowless room. It overwhelms the room. What's the best way to mute this? I think we're okay with the effect, it's just way too dark. We were considering another tintable glaze tinted "White", but are wary at this point! Valspar also make a product called "Brushed Pearl" which "Imparts a dimensional iridescent finish to walls...Subtle, muted effect"
I'm so disappointed in the room, it's nothing like the color chip, and definitely not an improvement over the existing peach paint!
Thanks for your help!
