cold water hammer

In this house for 25 years and have not had a cold water hammering noise until I installed a new washing machine. Get the noise only when it stops the cold water flow....other appliances and all faucets do not cause this noise.

the plumber should have installed a water hammer arrestor

The solenoid valves on the old washer probably didn't close as quickly.

You can get water hammer arrestors that just screw onto the hose faucets -- no plumbing skills needed.

Any your local corner hardware store will likely have them in stock.

You can get one made specifically for washing machines for about half that cost at Home Depot and Lowes, you should get two of them, one for hot and one for cold.

Forget Lowes, they don't carry them, the second item will have to be installed by a plumber.
