clogged drainage

I have a 4" black corrigated drainage pipe buried in the back yard to allow rain water run-off the the street sewer system. I suspect that it is clogged because of tree roots (i just had the tree removed). Can I safely snake the plastic pipe without damaging it. Can I rent a snake for this job and do I need a special cutting head/auger. I'll need about 100' of snake.
Thank you
