ceiling heat

I recently bought a new home that is approx. 35 yrs old.
I am in the process of remodeling the kichen and building an island. The home has wires running above the sheet rock in the ceiling. I currently have a ceiling fan above the island but would like to put up a few pendant lights instead. Does anyone know how i can do this without damaging the wires? I really dont want to rip out the whole ceiling...

Re: ceiling heat

sure, hire and electrician. they should be able to do it without a problem at all.

Re: ceiling heat

Have you looked at a single fixture which could replace the ceiling fan and still satisfy your lighting need , like a track light?

Above all, check with a stud finder having an energized wire feature and turn off your ceiling heat circuit breaker, before penetrating the sheetrock!

Re: ceiling heat

if you goning to start cutting holes in the drywall and there are lines up there, you will want to be very careful. Dont use ***** tools, use a drywall saw and cut very shallow! good luck!! :D
