cedar boards

My basement walls are finished with rough sawn cedar boards. They are reddish in color. Now I am remodeling, and need to replace some of them. The boards at Lowes are much whiter. Do I need to use Red Western cedar, or my boards changed color over time?

Re: cedar boards

It is possible the color changed over time, but I would remove one of the boards you currently have and take it with you to various big box stores/lumber dealers. This way you are more likely to get a good match. I would go to as many as possible or until you find a match. Another option might be to experiment with different finishes to see if you can duplicate the reddish tint.
