Can I make painted wood-textured paneling look like wood again?

The paneling in my kitchen is wood textured, 3D not the flat faux-grain. Because of the 3D I can't strip the paint, so I'm hoping I can maybe paint it somehow to make it look like wood again, not like wood textured paneling painted brown.

IMO, unfortunately, other than stripping, no.

You can spend a lot of time and effort replicating wood through faux wood painting over the surface, but that is quite an art. I saw this a lot in the 80's on the inside of smooth exterior steel doors, painted on the interior to try to match all the other dark stained wood in the house. These were done with 3-4 colors, and done by lightly swirling a 3" or 4" flat brush to replicate the natural lines of wood grain, lighter colors on top. Swirled circles around knots, more straight/curvy lines on the stretches between knots.

Also, consider that the newly painted wood grain might not match up with the original textured wood grain (a knot here, a knot there), unless you paid a lot of attention to detail and actually swirled your painted knots over textured knots, etc.
