Building a screen room

I'm building a screen room on my existing 14'x25' deck. I'll be using 4x4 posts covered with white vinyl sleeves, and a doubled 2x10 header. I was told I have to use a hurricane straap from the 4x4 to the header. I went to LOWES to buy my material, but became confused about the straps. What I bought was a 12" strap 1-1/2" wide, with the nails it called for. Does anyone know if this is correct? If not do you know what I need to use. Thanks.
Also do I need to put a strap on both sides?
