Building an enclosure for a see-through fireplace

Hello,

I found the article at TOH for building a partition wall (http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/step/0,,217320_149821,00.html) but what I cannot find anywhere is modified instructions for building a partition that is full height, but is not abutted to any walls on either side.

I want to build, basically, an enclosure for a see-through fireplace. I have the dimensions that I need, but I lack the basic carpentry skills to know how to modify instructions for building a partition wall.

This would be in a second floor master suite. It could be aligned with a wall beneath it, if that helps. Should I lag bolt the thing into the top plate of the wall beneath to ensure it is secure? How do I make sure I build straight. Please, any tips, or references to articles on this exact thing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
