Build your own furniture

When I was young my father and I bought unassembled furniture kits from Home Depot and assembled/stained our own funiture. It was a small way of connecting and small way of making furniture our own, plus it saved a bit of money. However these day it seems that Home Depot no longer carries these kits and I am having trouble finding them anywhere. Does anyone know of a good place to find them?

Making furniture is a nice hobby. Look on line for outlets and stores - I'm sure you will find plenty of those out there. And if you have a hard time finding, consider building from scratch.

The reasons why HD no longer sells them are: slow sales, low margin and limited shelf space.

I don't know about kits, but there are a lot of sites that sell furniture parts, i.e., legs, hardware, etc. You might make a nice project out of them.

We recently found a local store that belonged to the Real Wood Furniture organization (http://www.unfinishedfurniture.org/certification.cfm)

I like to build my own items but we liked what they had and it was not particle board or MDF.

minwax.com has a few simple projects with drawings and shopping/cut lists.

That's really a good hobby to make things from furniture. I liked your spirit. There are some places where you can find some furniture parts but you have to pay some money for that like duckloe.com and are furniture lovetoknow.com some sites that will be helpful for you.

I have no information regarding the kits either but I have been thinking of trying to do some rustic furniture by tenon/dowel joints. Getting a couple blades ******. I have been clearing a lot of maple on our property and have a lot of small baseball bat size limbs.
