Brick Lawn Border

I'm planning on using brick to border a planted area and am wondering if I should use some type of base like sand or just stick em right in the dirt?

Re: Brick Lawn Border

If the soil is reasonably loose, I would dig down about 3 inches, then apply about an inch of sand. Use builder's sand or sandbox sand, so as to avoid a product with any salt in it (like from a beach) that would not be good for your grass. Lay the bricks and tamp them down to form the edging. When finished, sprinkle some additional sand between the bricks to fill any spaces. Hose it down with a gentle sprayer to clean it up.
