Bowing basement floor

Hi everyone...here's the question. We are possibly going to be buying a 100 year old house in St.Louis, MO. The odd thing is the floor in the basement looks to be bowing up. It's actually raised up about a foot and cracked . The walls look to be ok. Just the floor seems to be the issue. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be. We were thinking maybe a pipe has burst under there and the pressure over time has forced the floor to bow and crack. But obviously we really have no real idea. Of course before we buy we will get it inspected but I just wondered if anyone on here could shed some light, or has delt with this before. Thanks so much in advance!
