bordering steps with brick

JUly 18, 2010 A S T O R I A , OR

Have a 1918 bungalow in Astoria Oregon. Am rebuilding the porch and when I make the
cement steps I'd like to border the steps edges in "glazed thin brick".

Saw a 1920s bungalow down the street that HAS this edging on its steps. It really gives the
steps a classy look. It's a glazed terra-cotta color 8 x 4 x 1 1/4 thick.

Question 1 : Where in the world can I buy "glazed think brick in the Portland Oregon area???
Have searched Internet till my fingers are numb.

Question 2 : IF/when I find some glazed brick . . . HOW do I go about bordering the cement
steps? ? ?

Question 3 : Do I go ahead and pour the cement steps, allowing for the extra height of the
ADDED brick border. . . then, when it's cured, I go back and lay the brick
border. . . filling in the rest of the cavity with mortar?

HELP! Any advice is most welcomed! Mike in Astoria [email protected]
