black greasy residue in bathtub

Whenever we use the bathtub/shower, floating, black particles appear. When drained, they stick to the tub and when wiped, they smear and must be removed with a grease-cutting solution. We have copper piping throughout and connected to gas water heater.

Re: black greasy residue in bathtub

Check your water heater. There was a problem at one time with the braided flexible water heater connectors. The black rubber lining inside these connectors was breaking down and causing the problem you are having.

Re: black greasy residue in bathtub

We don't have the flexible braided connectors. They are copper.
