Big bang theory.

Our small 1733 house has five heating zones, one of which is the source of a noise akin to dropping a metal lid onto a dumpster.
The company that installed our new furnace and reworked some pipes cannot find the reason and seems to have walked away from the problem.
Help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Big bang theory.

could you specify the type of heating you have---forced hot water, forced hot air, etc.

Does the banging occur when the heat first comes on, during the heat cycle, or near the end???

Please post back.

Re: Big bang theory.

Like jack I have a few questions.

Do you have an attic fan? Do you have a metal filter in one of the returns?

I only ask because I have the louvers for an old attic fan in my house and when the heat and ac shut off well the louvers settle back down into place because they open a little with the force of the air.

I also have metal air filters in my return air vents. When the suction lets go of them they clank back against the frame they set in.

It took a long time to get used to these noises. After 3 years I hardly notice it.
