I am converting our basement to a playroom and I would like to put up some insulation but the walls are not plumb. I am trying to figure out what is the best way to do it and what type of insulation to use. Any suggestions would be helpful.
What are the walls comprised of ?
Are they dry and free from water infiltration ?
I had closed cell foam insulation blown on the walls and sill plates. I have an older house and the walls were not flat enough to use the owens corning rigid insulation.
The basement is much warmer, as is the rest of the house. The basement is also less humid since the foam acts as a vapor barrier.
Two things I would have done differently:
1. do a little more research into how "green" the foam is. I've since read some mixes are less environmentally friendly than others.
2. Consider install a small duct for future electrical or plumbing needs. I'm not sure if this is a great idea, but some electricians and plumbers who see the foam are upset that they don't have easy access.
