Does a basement shower need to have a trap? If we just put a straight drain will it work?
it HAS to have a trap, if it doesn't the bathroom will stink of sewer gasses constantly.
MLB is right. The trap, which is required by code, contains water. This captive water, that can't drain by itself, stops the sewer gases from entering the room. When you flush new water down the darin, it replaces the old water that was sitting there.
Thank you! Glad I asked now I just have to admit to hubby that I was....wrong!
