basement floor

I am getting ready to remodel a basement. It is L-shaped and the short part is a laundry area which I would like to tile. The rest will be a den. It is dry and has no moisture problems. The floor is bare cement. What are my best flooring options?

DON'T USE CARPET. No matter how dry it seems down there, if there is one molecule of water to be found, it will be absorbed by carpet and grow mildew. Tile is too cold for a den, so I would use it only in the bathroom and use plastic vapor barrier under wood laminate flooring. Then I would place an area to make the den more cozy.

Can you use a moisture barrier under carpet?

I'm working with a similar dilemma...however, we just installed hardwood upstairs, and will be tiling the entire bathroom area in the basement. We're looking for an "inexpensive" and quick floor solution and thought carpet might be the way to go - also for the comfort and warmth factor.
