Banging Pipes

Throughout my house I have pipes banging when the faucet gets closed. All of the pipes (from what I can see) are secure. I have done some research and I have determined that I may need to install a water hammer arrestor to quiet and soften the banging. It is recommended to install the arrestor close to the shutoff valve. The problem is most of the pipes (bath for instance) are behind walls so I can access the pipes, and I really do not want to open up the walls. I am tying to find a arrestor that I can install on my system that will satisfy the entire home (only about 1000 square feet). Has anyone every had this issue or had any luck installing an arrestor?
