I don't know where the shoes fit in
But I once did this very unintentionally. In my 1920's row home I needed to open the drain to clean out a clog... and while trying to get the cap off with my pipe wrench, the whole drain pipe crumpled and came apart.

I'm no plumbing expert but fortunately my Dad is... he dug into the floor until he found a reasonably stable piece of pipe. It's been many years but as I recall he used some sort of PVC coupler that had a rubber sleeve and metal clamps and tied that into the existing drain. From there he re-piped up with PVC.

I know that's not much but maybe it will point you in the right direction.

Yep .... the forum is under a spam attack.

As xyxoxy mentions there are couplers for this purpose .....
