attaching a ledger board and flashing to a log home

I would like to attach a ledger board for a deck to a solid log home. I am alittle leary on doing this. How does attaching the ledger board (flashing etc.) differ from a "stick" built home. Has anyone done this kind of a job?

Thanks Kelsey

Do you want to attach the ledger board to a log or to the foundation? If its to the foundation, then you put the flashing between the bottom log and the sill plate. If you are attaching it to a log, then a lot depends on the type log and its profile, i.e. double tongue and groove, single groove with a key, or square log, etc.

Ideally, a ledger should be connected to a flat surface.

Consider building your deck an inch away from the logs, kind of "freestanding".

There are some very good advantages for such an idea, so there's something to think about here.
