applying stain in cold weather

I am hoping to put a coat of old based stain on the deck of my porch, but its November in New England and the temps are cold at night. It will certainly be below 50 degrees at night (maybe even high 30s). Will this just cause a longer drying time, or will the finish be damaged? Do I have to wait till spring? What about exterior latex paint on the trim in the same conditions?

Re: applying stain in cold weather

I'm no expert on pianting or staining, but I'd suggest no to painting and try an area with stain first. I suspect you'll be happier with the end result if you waited for 60 degree weather next spring!
