Anything good to say about propane tankless water heaters?

We're in the process of building a new home and I'm considering a propane tankless water heater. It would service only a master bath, about 45' from all other plumbing where we intend to use a typical LP tank water heater.

I like the idea of the tankless but it seems like there's a lot of negativity surrounding them. Anyone had any good experiences with a certain make/model?

My brother works in the HVAC business and he said that the tankless water heaters are not great at getting the water hot enough compared to the normal hot water tank. I have also heard from friends that say they wish they had old one back. As far as space savings they are great. I dont think the cost justifies the current way they work.

Temperature fluctuations and massive gas usage.

We built our house in 2001and the plumbing includes a recirculating circuit to speed hot water to parts of the house. We only use the pump when taking showers and installed a remoted controlled outlet to control the pump. When researching tankless water heaters, I read that the warranty was shortened if you have a recirculator. This leads me to think that water is corrosive and could shorten the lifespan of the piping if the pump is used.

Is this true and is there a way to lessen the wear? Maybe with a water conditioner? We get only minor hard water deposits from our FL municipal water.
