Antique Stove in Island Issue

We have an antique stove (see attached picture #1) that we would like to use in our new kitchen. The stove has to go in the island (see attached picture #2). The problem is that the fabulous back of the stove, which has the very cool working clock and timer sits 8.5" above the stove surface and we can't think of a way to have the stove in the island without the back of the stove blocking a lot of valuable counterspace and looking really weird. There will be 1 foot of counterspace behind the stove.

Can anyone think of a neat fix or another way to position the stove so that this isn't a problem? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
